Playwrights Project thanks our donors for their support. We are pleased to announce these recent grants:
We are honored and thrilled that The San Diego Women's Foundation has chosen Playwrights Project as one of five recipients in its recent cycle of funding. The $29,650 grant will support our playwriting program at schools across the county.
We are grateful to the The James Irvine Foundation for its generosity and vision. The multi-year grant, awarded in 2010, continues to support new play development through three programs:
- Telling Stories: Giving Voice to Foster Youth
- Play by Play: Cultivating Emerging Playwrights ages 19 and up
- Lifestages: Recollections & Reflectionsfor adults ages 55 and up
The Sidney E. Frank Foundation awarded Playwrights Project a grant of $25,000 in support of our Write On! standards-based playwriting program conducted in schools throughout San Diego County during the 2011-2012 school year.
A true leader in philanthropy for the arts, Mandell Weiss Charitable Trust has again provided $10,000 in underwriting for Plays by Young Writers, to be produced at the Lyceum Theatre in Horton Plaza in April 2012.
Support from state and local agencies has a large impact on our programming:
The San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture continues to provide the most critical support to the arts community by providing general operating support. We are pleased to announce our grant of $29,424 for the 2011-2012 program year.
A National Endowment for the Arts: Arts Education: Art Works grant of $11,000 is supporting playwriting residencies for underserved populations in San Diego schools, including programs for students in juvenile court schools, pregnant minors, homeless teens and English language learners. Matching funds are required. Your support is welcome.
The California Arts Council, through its Artists in Schools program, awarded us a $10,800 matching grant, supporting playwriting residencies at San Ysidro Middle School and Tierra del Sol Middle School this year. The CAC is primarily supported by the sale of Arts License Plates. Do you have one on your car?
