About Playwrights Project
The Mission of Playwrights Project is to advance literacy, creativity, and communication by empowering individuals to voice their stories through playwriting programs and theatre productions.
Founded in 1985, Playwrights Project reaches up to 10,000 people annually. Along with classroom programs, Playwrights Project conducts the annual California Young Playwrights Contest for writers under the age of 19, and professionally produces the winning scripts. Programs also dramatize stories from the lives of seniors, foster youth, and underserved populations, and support the development of emerging playwrights.
Playwrights Project relies on the generosity and compassion of you, our financial supporters, who share our passion for playwriting and live theatre. Will you help us engage San Diegans in the creative exploration that theatre empowers? Will you help us build students' literacy skills, advance verbal communication in a technical age, and build empathy by sharing stories from various communities? We need you to make it work. What is giveBIG?
giveBIG is an online networking and giving event that will provide hundreds of local nonprofits the opportunity to gain exposure to and start relationships with new donors. As a major incentive for success, The San Diego Foundation has offered an incentive pool of $150,000 to encourage giving during this 24-hour event.
Each participating nonprofit’s portion of the incentive pool will depend upon how much they raised in proportion to the total amount raised during the event. For example, if an organization raises 5% of the total amount raised during the event, they will receive 5% of the incentive pool.
There is no limit to as to how much a donor may give, nor how much a nonprofit may receive. However, only gifts between $25 - $1,000 will be eligible for incentive pool funds. For any single gift to a nonprofit that is greater than $1,000, only the first $1,000 will be considered for incentive pool funds.
