Telling Stories Performance

August 7, 2014 at 7:30pm
California Western School of Law, 3rd Floor

350 Cedar Street
San Diego, CA 92101

A site-specific staged reading of an experimental new play about foster care will be presented in the mock courtroom of California Western School of Law. In Partial Rights, by Tori Rice, the audience is immersed in the foster care system along with two girls navigating juvenile court. The complexities, conflicts, and confusion are almost comical. Young Playwrights Reveal Dark Stories in Theater Project
Juvenile Court and Community Schools students get chance to see works acted out

"Like all good writers, the students drew from their own lives for the original plays they watched actors read Tuesday in San Marcos. The dialogue was often edgy, the scenes gritty and the themes surprisingly dark."
- Gary Warth

Playwrights Project will work with students in over 20 Juvenile Court and Community Schools during the school year, including the four schools mentioned in the article. This programming is made possible by the California Arts Council's new JUMP StArts program.
