California Young Playwrights Contest

Are you under 19? The deadline for the California Young Playwrights Contest is June 1!

Professionals will evaluate your entry, and if you're one of the winners, your play will receive a production. This is an educational program focused on the development of new plays - so if you're a winner, be prepared to revise your script with the support of a professional dramaturg (or writing friend), director and actors. Every entrant may request an individualized script critique.

Full details and entry form are available at www.playwrightsproject.org/programs/contest/

We're also looking for script readers to help with the selection process. Are you an adult who is interested in reading submissions? We'll be holding two orientations: Sunday, May 17 at 11am, and Wednesday, May 27 at 6:30pm. Contact dlivingston@playwrightsproject.org for more details and to RSVP for an orientation session.

Grants Received

We are grateful for recent funding from the Kiwanis Club of Old San Diego; Qualcomm, one of our long-time donors, which matched a gift from one of their employees; and the Mary & Gary West Foundation, which awarded us a grant for general operating expenses. Lastly, we are absolutely ecstatic to report that our Board of Directors unanimously stepped up their giving in response to a challenge from the Parker Foundation. Thanks to their generosity, our Board has secured a 2-to-1 matching grant! We are grateful to all our donors for their continued support of our arts education programs.
