Inspired to submit to this year's contest?

Here's what you need to know!
  • Professionals will evaluate your entry, and if you're one of the winners your play will receive a production. This is an educational program focused on the development of new plays - so if you're a winner, be prepared to revise your script with the support of a professional dramaturg (or writing friend), director and actors.
  • Entries must be received or postmarked no later than June 1, 2016.
  • Californians under the age of 19 as of June 1, 2016 are eligible to enter.
  • Please submit original, unpublished scripts only!
  • Length must be a minimum of ten, typed pages using play format.
Previously submitted scripts are only eligible if significant changes have been made to the script in response to judges' comments.

Please type the script using play format and number the pages. Include a title page with the title of play, your name, address, phone, and date of birth. Only include your name on the cover page! Scripts are read anonymously, so please do not put your name on page headers, footers, etc. Optionally, include a brief cover letter about yourself and why you wrote this play; tell us if you would like a written script evaluation. Also, if a teacher encouraged you to enter, include the teacher's name and school in your letter!

Online entries can be submitted here.
A printable version of this entry form is available here.

Please mail a copy of your printed submission to:

Descendants of Early San Diego wants your submissions!
Two pieces will be compensated $100 each!

Playwrights Project and Write Out Loud are thrilled to partner with Descendants of Early San Diego for play submissions for production in TwainFest! Submissions of original monologues from 5 to 10 minutes in length are being solicited for possible inclusion in the activities of TwainFest, and possible other educational/entertainment presentations celebrating the targeted historical period. The monologues are to depict real people who actually lived in the Region, share with the audience their stories, and to get a glimpse of life in the 1800's. Previous works have told the story of specific people and explored such topics as: Toys of the 1800's, Women Gambling acceptable in California, the Cattle Industry of Early California, the changing of the flag from Spain to Mexico, and others.
