Friday March 18th, Playwrights Project will be represented alongside thirteen other local nonprofit organizations in the "Betty Mabee Hat Parade" sponsored by the Gold Diggers. The Gold Diggers support the development and continuation of programs that serve the needs of our local community, including but not limited to children, the elderly, crime victims, and more. The Gold Diggers raise funds for emerging non-profits like ours in the San Diego County area; and since 1994, $780,000 has been distributed.

The theme of this year's hat parade is "Fairy Tales Can Come True" and Playwrights Project would greatly appreciate your support! Our hat could potentially win from $500 to $2500 to supplement our programs such as Write On! and Plays by Young Writers

The luncheon will be at the San Diego Marriott in La Jolla on March 18th If you would like to attend this festive event, tickets are $100 and can be purchased by calling Jackie Bailey at 619-670-3643. If you are unable to attend and wish to show your support, absentee ballots are available for $25.
Submit your play to the 2016 California Young Playwrights Contest!

Inspired to submit?
Here's what you need to know!
  • Professionals will evaluate your entry, and if you're one of the winners your play will receive a production. This is an educational program focused on the development of new plays - so if you're a winner, be prepared to revise your script with the support of a professional dramaturg (or writing friend), director and actors.
  • Entries must be received or postmarked no later than June 1, 2016.
  • Californians under the age of 19 as of June 1, 2016 are eligible to enter.
  • Please submit original, unpublished scripts only!
  • Length must be a minimum of ten, typed pages using play format.
Previously submitted scripts are only eligible if significant changes have been made to the script in response to judges' comments.

Please type the script using play format and number the pages. Include a title page with the title of play, your name, address, phone, and date of birth. Only include your name on the cover page! Scripts are read anonymously, so please do not put your name on page headers, footers, etc. Optionally, include a brief cover letter about yourself and why you wrote this play; tell us if you would like a written script evaluation. Also, if a teacher encouraged you to enter, include the teacher's name and school in your letter!

Online entries can be submitted here.
A printable version of this entry form is available here.

Please mail a copy of your printed submission to:
