"Thanks for giving me the confidence to write about my life."
-High School student

Our student writers are putting the finishing touches on their plays, and professional actors are gearing up for performances at schools across the county!  Playwrights Project brought playwriting programs to over 100 classrooms this past year. Almost 300 scripts have been submitted to our California Young Playwrights Contest, as student writers vie for an opportunity to see their play professionally produced in our Plays by Young Writers festival at the Old Globe in January 2018. Inmates in our Out of the Yard program are enjoying the freedom to redefine their purpose and develop deeper empathy as they craft their stories into plays. One participant stated, "This program helped me put many of the conflicts I've encountered in my life into perspective. It has improved my life, and added meaning and value."

We at Playwrights Project aim to share the gift that is the power of the spoken and written language. Your gift ensures we are able to continue to nurture young writers, strengthen thoughtful communication throughout diverse communities, encourage creative problem solving and inspire a passion for lifelong learning in audience of all ages.

Your donation of any amount helps to fulfill our mission of advancing literacy, creativity and communication by empowering individuals to voice their stories through playwriting programs and theatre productions.

Your donation is 100% tax deductible (Tax ID 33-0394250) and will be acknowledged with a letter of receipt.
