PBYW Alumna Shines at
Grantmakers for Education Conference
Thank you to Sofia Miller for representing Playwrights Project at the Grantmakers for Education conference site visit to A Reason to Survive (ARTS). Sofia was a 2018 Winner and 2019 Semi-Finalist of the California Young Playwrights Contest. She shared about her gift of voice through creative writing with other youth, funders, and those working in the field of Creative Youth Development. We're so proud of our talented alumni!
Staged reading of Finding Our Way presented
at the Meeting of the Minds Conference
Mental Health America of San Diego County hosted the 2018 Meeting of the Mind Conference last week in San Diego. Playwrights Project presented a staged reading of Finding Our Way, a play written by program participants in our Out of the Yard  program at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility. The play explores the challenges and hopes of those recovering from addiction. Dr. Heather Greenwald, RJD's Chief of Mental Health, called Out of the Yard "transformative." She added, "What this team brings (to the men at RJD) is the reflection of their value ... And for the moments that they are all together they are not in prison, they are playwrights, they are actors, they are creators not destroyers, and ... they are making something beautiful. And they get to go home with that to their room and they get to concentrate on that." Playwrights Project is honored to work with individuals at the forefront of behavioral health.
