Writing Programs

Playwrights Project encourages individuals of all ages and backgrounds to explore their creativity through theatre. We embrace theatre as a means of personal health and well-being, community building, and as an opportunity to learn about ourselves and others.

We believe everyone is a storyteller with fascinating ideas that can come to life as plays. We aspire to ignite a love of theatre.

Our playwriting programs for adults are primarily centered on specific groups that don’t typically attend traditional live theatre or whose voices often go unheard.

Playwrights Project theatre experts support the development of new plays and strengthen writing skills for beginning playwrights and further develop scripts-in-process for more experienced writers.

Our playwriting programs emphasize the importance of revision. Programs offer playwrights the opportunity to hear their plays read aloud, engage in discussion with fellow writers, and often culminate in a community reading of the revised scripts.

“I’m still reeling from the experience of seeing my life before me unfold… I can’t figure out how the actor could portray me so well, having never met me before. It was certainly life enhancing. In a big way!”

“I learned a great deal, both from the classmates and the teacher, about fun and interesting ways to portray a situation… I watched the teacher help students mold exciting strands into a script.”
